Message from The Band
Points of Order: • Always the Bridesmaid: A Singles Series debuts in October! • Pre-order available through the Decemberists Shop. • The Band is Currently in the Studio • Insound throws a design party, Decemberists are implicated Summer
is upon us; our oscillating fans are circulating warm, jasmine-perfumed
air through our bedrooms and ossuaries. The taste of tangerine sorbet
is perpetually on one's palette. Our feet are finding themselves often
submerged in mixing bowls filled with ice water. Summer is upon us. Which brings to mind a slurry of news regarding your humble Pac NW Decemberists. First
and foremost, you'll be pleased to know that we've recorded a tidy heap
of material which we're releasing as 12" vinyl and digital singles over
the course of three Autumnal months. This 'singles series' is aptly
titled "Always the Bridesmaid" and will prominently feature songs that
the Decemberists really loved but presciently felt they would not fit
on the band's forthcoming LP. The first volume will hit fine
indie record stores everywhere on October 14th, and will be comprised
of "Valerie Plame," and "O New England" on the A and B side,
respectively. The second volume, "Days of Elaine" b/w "Days of
Elaine (Long)" and "I'm Sticking With You," will be released on
November 4th. In celebration of both Volume 2's release and the
promise of a shiny new administration, the Decemberists will be
performing "Valerie Plame" on Late Night with Conan O'Brien on the 3rd
of November. The third and final volume, "Record Year for Rainfall," b/w "Raincoat Song," will be released on December 2nd. Always
the Bridesmaid: A Singles Series will be available on high-grade 12"
vinyl and digital format in the US and 7" vinyl and digital in the UK.
The lovely folks at Rough Trade will be overseeing the UK release of
the series, Capitol Records will oversee the US digital release and the
band's new imprint, Y.A.B.B. Records (in association with Jealous
Butcher) will release the 12" vinyl version. The digital release will
likely be available world-wide. You can pre-order the 12" version of the singles on colored vinyl EXCLUSIVELY through the Decemberists Shop (www.decemberistsshop.com)
NOW. You can either have them arrive at your doorstep in the three
installments or you can have them, all three, delivered in one shot
around the release of the 3rd single on December 2nd. You'll be happy
to know that no small effort has gone into the design and manufacture
of these beauties -- each one will be on 180 gram vinyl in a rather
lovely custom jacket. The shop will also be making available two (his
'n' hers) t-shirts to coincide with the singles' release. And
this mysterious LP which proved an inhospitable home to these little
pop gems? The band is currently hard at work in the studio trying to
tame its mangy throw. It's a tough bit of leather. . .a little mossy,
a little evil. More on that later. And what better time than summer to consider purchasing a fetching new t-shirt, as designed by Jason Munn of The Small Stakes (www.thesmallstakes.com). Jason did a nifty design for a Decemberists t-shirt, along with 19 other bands, and you can check them all out at www.insound.com/insound20. Drop in the code "Insound20dec" for a fan-friendly discount. That's all for now! Keep those toes under water! And REGISTER TO VOTE!!!!
Yours,
The Decemberists www.decemberists.com

The Decemberists News | 5.14.2008
Points of Order:
* Colin Meloy Sings Sam Cooke now available at the Decemberists Shop
* John Moen releases debut solo album Perhapst also now available at the Decemberists Shop
Thanks to all of you who came out to a show on Colin's recent U.S. outing. We have some limited quantities of the tour EP Colin Meloy Sings Sam Cooke that we have put up for sale at the Decemberists Shop. The five-song collection features Laura Gibson singing on harmonies throughout, and the track listing goes like this:
1. Cupid
2. Summertime
3. That's Where It's At
4. Good Times
5. Bring It On Home To Me
In addition, the store is now stocked with vinyl of Colin Meloy Sings Live! Apologies for the delay in getting them shipped out to the patient lot of you that had ordered. There was some kind of production hold-up involving a plant manager who had taken ill at the fine vinyl plant in Prague that we use. Suffice it to say that the plant manager is feeling a lot better, and the double-gatefold LP that finally arrived on our shores looks and sounds pretty sweet.
In other band news, we're pleased to announce the solo debut of Decemberists drummer John Moen. Asked to describe the album, John says he wishes he was a guitar player - "think a much less agile Dave Grohl" - so this is an opportunity where he gets to play guitar and sing. Says John, "You can go ahead and make all the Phil Collins jokes you want, but you must listen to the album at least once before you crack wise." The 'band' and album are titled Perhapst, and the album includes eleven tracks of folk-pop-psych goodness. Now available at the Decemberists Shop. You can hear a couple tracks on the freshly minted Myspace page.
And with that, we hope springtime is in full bloom wherever you are.
Yours,
The Decemberists

Colin Meloy LP Now Available For Preorder
COLIN MELOY SINGS LIVE NOW AVAILABLE FOR PREORDER Colin's first solo CD "Colin Meloy Sings Live" is now available for preorder on the new and improved Decemberists Shop.
This is no run of the mill preorder. Beyond the simple pleasure of the CD/LP arriving via the esteemed U.S. Postal Service on or around the album's April 8 release date, there are a myriad of tantalizing perquisites that await the preorderee:
* The first 300 CDs and the first 100 LPs ordered will be autographed by Colin
* Everyone who preorders are automatically entered into a drawing for a Grand Prize: a skull, ship and sheep as seen on Colin's 2006 tour ("I thought it would be nice to have company onstage" - Colin) , as well as 2 tickets to any one of the shows on Colin's upcoming tour.
* Order a Colin Meloy t-shirt at a reduced price along with the CD or LP (this shirt will not be available on Colin's tour).
For international orders, please bear in mind that arrival of your package might take a little longer than U.S. orders because of shipping variability overseas.
Included on Sings Live! are songs from Meloy's first band, Tarkio, as well as cuts from every Decemberists full-length pre-The Crane Wife. There is also a tune from the 2006 EP Picaresqueties, two previously unreleased originals ("Dracula's Daughter" and "Wonder"), bits of covers of songs by the Smiths, R.E.M., Pink Floyd, and Fleetwood Mac, and a traditional folk song in debt to Shirley Collins' arrangement.
Tracklist: 01 Devil's Elbow 02 We Both Go Down Together 03 Evoking a Campfire Singalong [banter] 04 The Gymnast, High Above the Ground 05 Here I Dreamt I Was an Architect / Dreams 06 Dracula's Daughter [previously unreleased] 07 Wonder [previously unreleased] 08 A Brief Introduction to Shirley Collins [banter] 09 Barbara Allen 10 The Engine Driver 11 On the Bus Mall 12 A Skull, a Ship, and a Sheep [banter] 13 California One/Youth and Beauty Brigade / Ask 14 The Bachelor and the Bride 15 A Cautionary Song 16 Red Right Ankle 17 Bandit Queen
Note that the vinyl version (on Jealous Butcher Records, not Kill Rock Stars, as had been erroneously reported in the last email) contains a bonus track - a cover of Jackson C. Frank's "Blues Run the Game".

Four New Shows and New Merch!
We are pleased to announce that the Decemberists will be playing four shows in the Northwest next month - January 22 and 23 at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland and January 30 and 31 at the Moore Theatre in Seattle. We know this may be a small consolation to those of you outside of Portland and Seattle that had tickets to the fall tour, but the band has rested up, and was excited to play some dates close to home. These shows will be neither Longs nor Shorts, just good ol' fashioned Decemberists shows.
A limited number of tickets are available Friday, December 14 at NOON Pacific time at The Decemberists' ticketing site. Tickets go on sale to the general public beginning the following Friday. Check venue websites for complete information.
While you're online, be sure to check out the official Decemberists shop at www.decemberistsshop.com. In addition to the usual wide variety of Decemberists shirts, CDs/LPs, and posters, there's a lot of new items and designs in there. Order by December 18 for domestic standard shipping and receive your order by Xmas.

"The Long and Short of It" Tour Cancelled
With much regret The Decemberists have cancelled the remainder of
"The Long and Short of It" tour.
One of our band members has been ill for
a while but we thought all would be well in time for these tour dates. After a
couple shows, though, it has become clear that the illness is much worse than we
had initially realized. We need to return home so our friend can
mend.
It saddens us to disappoint our fans. We hope everybody understands
it is only because of an extreme situation that we had to cancel a tour we've
all been excited about doing since the idea was originally hatched.
Our
deepest apologies but at this time no plans are being made to reschedule the
dates. Ticket holders should seek refunds at point of purchase.
